Methodology
Entrepreneurial Check publishes model-based estimates from public Y Combinator directory data and market assumptions — illustrative only, not appraisals or verified net worth.
Company valuation
- Every private company with a published raise: company mid = raise × 10. Seed and Series A use the same multiple.
- YC-only with no published outside raise: default mid $7M.
- Disclosed or tracker valuations override raise × 10 when we have them.
Ownership
Two-founder teams with a CEO plus a COO, CTO, or other partner always split the remaining founder pool 65/35.
On seed / YC-only, that pool is 100% (SAFE investors are not treated as priced equity yet). After a priced round (Series A+), investors have converted and the remaining founder pool is smaller (about 28% at A, then less at B/C). These are assumptions, not disclosed cap tables.
Paper wealth
Mid ≈ company valuation × modeled ownership. Ranges use a 0.7×–1.5× valuation band.
Public figures beyond YC
For well-known public-company founders and operators, the mid can be a published tracker estimate (Forbes Real-Time or Bloomberg Billionaires) with a citation and as-of date, not the seed-stage raise model. Ownership uses disclosed proxy / 13D figures when we have them.
Those marks move daily. Treat them as dated snapshots, not appraisals.
